Will Smart Phones Replace ENG Cameras For Reporters?

As technology advances in leaps and bounds, we’re seeing an increasing number of reporters using smart phones – not only for quick social media teases, but for hard news gathering. This brief article discusses the growing use of smart phones with sophisticated aps for news gathering.

In my first TV news job in 1970 as a Fox Valley stringer for WBAY-TV in Green Bay, I had a Bell and Howell 70DR camera, shot 8mm film, and then had to send the film via Greyhound Bus to the station in Green Bay, where it was “souped” and edited for the 6 or 10 PM newscast.  We’ve come a long way since those days!
