George Albert Nelson, age 76, passed away peacefully at home on January 28, 2015. The cause of death was chronic lung disease. He was born in Madison on June 6, 1938 to Dorothea Smith Nelson and Russell Arthur Nelson. A life-long Madisonian, a status in which he took great pride, George graduated from Madison West High School, Class of 1956, and was awarded a B.A. in Business (Finance) from the University of Wisconsin in 1960. He married Judith Mann (nee Norrell) in 1982 and their life together was an accomplishment he treasured above all others. BURR-lin or Ber-LIN?
Many Wisconsin radio and TV stations are reporting the Berlin School Board decided to stick with the nickname “Berlin Indians”, despite some pressure that it is a racist nickname. So: is it Ber-LIN, like the city in Germany for which it’s named; or, do the locals say “BURR-lin”? By the way, the city lies in both Green Lake and Waushara County. Waushara – another one of those Wisconsin place-names that can easily be mispronounced by someone not familiar with the city or county of Waushara. You never have to guess, because you can quickly check the pronunciation of any Wisconsin place-name in the special section of the WBA Newsroom website devoted to making you sound like a local.
WBA Digital Hotline Webinar
The webinar was presented Tuesday afternoon, January 27th by Jacobs Media, a Michigan-based media consulting company selected by the WBA because of their experience in the space. The entire Jacobs Media team participated, including President Fred Jacobs, sales expert and Vice-President Paul Jacobs, social media expert (and Wisconsin native) Lori Lewis, and the COO of jacapps, their mobile application development company, Bob Kernen.
The webinar covered many areas, including:
- The research they conducted among WBA members that was the genesis of the Hotline.
- Information about how digital platforms are impacting listening, viewing, and revenue generation.
- An overview of the services that will be provided to Wisconsin broadcasters, including webinars, mailers, and the Hotline.
- Background on the Jacobs Media team that is available to Wisconsin broadcasters.
- Examples of the types of questions they are regularly asked by broadcasters.
If you were not able to participate in the webinar, it will be archived on the WBA’s website. (http://www.wi-broadcasters.org)
