Wilde joins Morgan Murphy Media

Respected Green Bay Packers beat writer Jason Wilde is joining Morgan Murphy Media.

Wilde has covered the Packers since 1996 for various outlets including the Wisconsin State Journal, the Athletic, and ESPNWisconsin.com.

In this new partnership, Wilde will provide daily reporting for Morgan Murphy Media’s local news websites in Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula in Michigan. His content will be available for free to local news readers on channel3000.com in Madison, news8000.com in La Crosse-Eau Claire, and on myUPNow.com in Marquette, Michigan. Most recently, his writing was only available to paying subscribers on Madison.com.

Wilde, a three-time Wisconsin Sportswriter of the Year who has also won numerous Wisconsin Newspaper Association and Associated Press Sports Editors awards, hosts “Wilde & Tausch” with former University of Wisconsin and Packers offensive lineman Mark Tauscher, a member of the Packers Hall of Fame. He will continue to host the show for ESPN Wisconsin and Good Karma Brands.

“There is no one with better sources or with deeper history and knowledge of the Green Bay Packers,” said Colin Benedict, VP of News, Morgan Murphy Media. “We are thrilled to give his expertise a greater audience which it deserves.”

In addition to daily digital coverage, Wilde’s insights and analysis will be available through a daily newsletter and featured in local newscasts in three markets. This approach will meet Packers news consumers where they are when it’s convenient for them.

“When the State Journal informed me that it would no longer be covering the Packers, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t unnerved by the idea of entering my 30th season as a beat writer with no place to, you know, write,” Wilde said. “My first call was to ‘Tausch,’ who was quick to emphasize what an opportunity it was. He could not have been more right.”

Wilde has worked in concert with Channel3000 before, when his written work for ESPNWisconsin.com was cross-posted on WISC-TV’s website from 2011 through 2015.

“Covering the Packers in Wisconsin is a 24/7, 365 endeavor,” said Benedict. “With the NFL draft in Green Bay next month, this is a perfect time to expand our Packers coverage. We expect to keep Jason busy.”

“In my time covering the Packers, I’ve talked to thousands of players. And one recurring theme I heard from guys who came to Green Bay after being let go by another club was, ‘I’m not focused on proving that team wrong, I’m focused on proving the Packers right.’ Now, I know exactly how those players felt,” said Wilde.

“I am incredibly grateful to Morgan Murphy Media’s Brian Burns and Colin Benedict, who tailored this role to fit my skill set and passion for storytelling; to Good Karma Brands’ Craig Karmazin and Greg Scalzo, who were pivotal to making this partnership come to life,” Wilde said. “My teammates at ESPN Wisconsin who have always been so supportive of my work; and everyone at WISC-TV and Channel3000.com who have already made me feel like part of the team there.”

“I can’t wait to get started.”

Wilde starts in his new role with Morgan Murphy Media immediately.
